Amber started talking about going on vacation this year in January.
When it came time to reserve the rental car, we had a really good deal, called them up and made the reservation, asking all the pertinent questions, just so we wouldn't be stranded in Athens, about 2 hours away from home. We decided we were going to leave Saturday morning, so we changed the reservation to pick up the van on Friday night. We get there, handed the clerk the credit card and she hands it back informing us that we can use a credit card or debit card issued from the bank, but we can't use cash or a prepaid card. This was one of the first questions I had asked and was told they use them all the time. Well, we came back from Athens with a sad outlook, knowing our dreams of a vacation was slipping out of our hands. By 3:00 the next afternoon we knew that we wouldn't be going, but, just for the heck of it, called up Rent-A-Wreck, and got a great deal on a minivan, paid cash for it, and picked it up by 5 that day.
We left at 10:30, but didn't actually get started until 11:00 on Saturday evening.

We had a great time hanging out with friends and family at the beach, hanging out with the grandparents, getting lost in Cape Coral for over an hour, and the kids got to hang out with their friends.

Amber was thrilled that she was in the middle of a tornado warning, because we don't get too many of them in the mountains and that's something she has missed. Patrick and I left Friday evening because of an emergency back at home, and pulled in Saturday afternoon. Brian couldn't go because he had to work and Danny stayed home because it was his vacation away from me...at least that's what he claimed!! Amber will be back the first week in August, and if I know her, the second week she'll start planning for 2009.
