An Interesting Evening That Was Had By All

We had an interesting evening last night. Went to bed around midnight after hearing the dogs bark for 2 hours at the guy next door who was having a bonfire and burning all old wood. Around 2:30 a.m. Amber came barging into the bedroom saying there was a fire outside. We looked and the fire had started down the side of the mountain and was about 5 feet from the house. Danny started with his shovel putting it out that way. Brian was helping on the other side with another shovel, Patrick and his friend Cody had a 5 gallon bucket and was throwing water on the fires, and I had a 5 gallon gas can I keep filled with water that I was pouring on the fire. Amber was keeping the dogs quiet. Within an hour everything was put out, but it took longer than that to get back to sleep. Adrenaline really gets you going. Looking out this morning at the blackened earth, it just hit home that if Amber wouldn't have been woken up by the dogs barking and the sound of popping we could have really had a different ending.

We're supposed to have a small accumulation of snow tomorrow, and for Danny's sake I hope we do. He missed last year's 6-inch fluke snowfall since he was in Florida working. The kids sure had fun on that one as seen in the pics below. These are just a few of what it looked like.

And the one I like the best is the one of our road from the driveway looking toward South Carolina:
