Birthdays always seemed to represent how much we had grown up when I was little. When I turned 13, I was the teenager, while my sisters were lowly "underaged" children. When I hit 17 and graduated high school, I thought, "Yeah, I'm special now." At 18, I got married and started a family, and that's when I realized something. Actually I realized it yesterday. When you're married and have kids, you see them growing up and then you realize that you have aged too! Yes, I know that you'll age regardless, but it seems faster. It seems like yesterday I had Amber, Brian, and Patrick fighting over a pink rocking pony in the front yard, or Brian and Patrick going to garage sales that were ending and bringing home leftover furniture, Amber tattling on her brothers for swinging on palm fronds, or me catching Amber eating popcorn, drinking a soda and talking on the speaker phone to one of her "new best friends". As long as memories stay with me, I'll gladly age, but when they fail to make me smile, or they fail in general, that's when I'll be sad. I think that how you know how old you truly are....not in years, or in the way you look, but in the memories you've made, the life you've lived, the love you given, and the happiness you have inside.
HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!!
By the way, when you're not having fun on your birthday, this is what you look like...
I'll be having fun......
